How smart factories pave the way for agility
For many production companies, the ‘Smart Factory’ still seems a long way off. How on earth are you going to make your factory more autonomous, more efficient and more predictable all on your own? After all, to achieve this, cyber-physical systems need to monitor your physical processes and be able to make decentralized decisions. With our interplay of hardware, software, sensors, modular design and VR technology, you can actually pull it off!
One of the numerous advantages of Industry 4.0 is that you become more agile as a company. Adapting to changing requirements and market conditions, including new technologies, is a lot faster with automated systems than when people have to do so. At Selmers, we have invested a great deal over the past few years to make that transition ourselves and become more agile. One of the ways we have done this is by having all internal disciplines and specialists work together as one mechatronics project team.
Ready for Smart Industry
On top of that, individual colleagues are constantly developing themselves through intensive training. For example, a colleague with an electrotechnical and programmer background has mastered various 3D simulation techniques while receiving practical support from a student in game development. With all the necessary knowledge and expertise thus acquired over the past years, we have prepared ourselves and therefore also your production company, for the Smart Industry. Our SPMS plant management system plays a key part in creating, maintaining and developing your own smart factory and is tailored to your individual processes and production environment.
SPMS, and Industry 4.0 for that matter, roughly follow four steps:
- Gathering data
- Understanding data
- Predicting events
- Automatic adjustment of machines with minimal intervention of operators.
By applying our level structure, all collected data are arranged in an unambiguous way and immediately get the right context. All machines and machine parts have a set of basic parameters that are the same for all software modules and that also receive the information from the levels above. In order to understand the data and recognize patterns, we visualize all data by means of either basic KPIs and graphs, analytical BI tools or even VR. Using data in a 3D simulation allows us to optimize processes at the same time.
Thanks to the interplay of hardware, software, sensors, a modular design and additional VR technology, we can assist you in turning your company into a Smart Factory. Even remotely.
